Julie’s Story

To go into detail of Julie’s life would begin a saga series similar to Harry Potter. To say she lived life to the fullest would almost be naïve. She was never afraid to take a chance or say exactly what was on her mind, which left a mark on anyone she came into contact with. Julie was the definition of “life of the party” and would light up any room she walked into. If you ever met Julie, then you knew the real Julie. She never hid who she was which is one of the traits I looked up to the most.

Starting off I’d like to explain the name of “Pinecone”. Before either of her kids even had babies, Julie decided that Grandma (or any other typical grandma nicknames) were just not going to cut it for her. So she chose the name Pinecone for herself and if you knew Julie, it just made sense. Before her first grandson was born we thought the Pinecone name was going to go away but to no surprise it just stuck harder. Doing as Julie does, she went all out and it ended up being the perfect grandma name. Being she was cut short of her time as “Pinecone” I want to make her grandma legacy last as long as I can with this event in her honor. Julie now has three beautiful grandchildren.

Julie loved so many things in life. You couldn’t walk five steps without her pointing out the tiniest little flower growing in a sidewalk crack or a cute animal somewhere in the distance. One of her biggest passions in life was to run. She ran countless marathons and other events. I’m not sure how many miles she put under her feet but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was in the millions. I felt putting on a running event was only suitable to keep her memory alive for all of us that love and miss her dearly.

Knowing Julie, you also knew how much of a love for animals she had. She always stood up for them and took the best care she possibly could for any and all of them. One of my favorite memories as a kid is waking up one morning and she had our chicken “Yellow” all wrapped in a towel as she was rummaging through the house gathering supplies. She had watched a coyote grab our chicken and she chased it down the street until the coyote dropped it running for his own life. Yellow had a couple deep puncture wounds and she managed to save his life somehow. She was never short of incredible and never did anything half-assed.
